Ron
Barr is a veteran journalist and sports broadcaster. His career began at the
Washington Post newspaper in Washington, D.C. Following that opportunity he
became a freelance reporter with ABC Radio Sports.
Barr's first venture in television was in Boston, anchoring the sports segment
of the evening newscast. In addition, Barr announced New England Patriot pre-season
football and Boston Celtic games.
Barr's first network assignment was to host pre-game, half time and post-game
shows of various NFL games for CBS Sports. Later, he moved to Seattle where
he became the Sports Director for KIRO telelvision. Also, while in Seattle, he anounced Seattle Sonic NBA basketball and University of
Washington football games.
Barr then became the sports anchor at KRON Television in San Francisco. Additionally,
he broadcast Stanford and Cal football and basketball games. Barr won a prestigious
Emmy Award for writing "From San Quentin to Candlestick." This award-winning
television feature chronicled a young prison convict's "dream come true"
opportunity to try out in front of San Francisco Giant players and front office
personnel. It resulted in his getting invited to a spring training tryout with
the Giants upon his release from prison.
Barr's career includes broadcasting NBA basketball, NFL football, Major League
Baseball, professional tennis, numerous college sporting events as well as several
other major sporting events. His sports reporting resume includes 30 Super Bowls
and 5 Olympic Games.
In 1988, Barr followed his heart and love for sports by launching America's
Sports Talk Show "Sports Byline USA." This national, 3 hour, nightly
sports talk show was the first national sports talk show and network, and
has become America's largest sports talk radio network. Heard on 200 U.S.
radio stations, it reaches more than two and a half million American listeners.
Also, it's heard worldwide on the more than 500 American Forces Radio Network
stations, in Canada and on Radio New Zealand. An in-flight version of Sports
Byline USA is heard on all domestic and international ATA Airline flights.
In July, 2002, the Sports Byline Network expanded to 24 hours a day with
the launch of Sirius Satellite Radio. Sirius allows listeners to receive
the Sports Byline programming in their cars, trucks, boats, planes, motorhomes,
and homes coast to coast, without interruption. Sports Byline USA Network
programming can be heard on Sirius Stream 122. In addition to Sports Byline
USA and Sports OverNight America, additional programming includes The Wrestling
Observer, Out and About, the Video Game Review
as well as live sporting events.
Furthermore, Ron Barr's voice and
likeness are known worldwide. He is the sportscaster in more than a half dozen
EA SPORTS video games. Millions of video game players know Ron Barr as the
"voice of" NHL Hockey, Bill Walsh College Football, PGA Golf, FIFA
Soccer and many other popular sports video games.
Barr sums up his career and love for sports saying, "I work in the toy
department of life."
